LONG KNIVES" |

As the
government
forces
pushed the
Native
people
further off
their
traditional
hunting
grounds and
summer homes
to make room
for the tens
of thousands
of settlers,
the Native
people had
little
choice but
to venture
out on to
the open
plains to
hunt Buffalo
to feed and
house their
families.
This made
them easy
targets for
the
government
troops.
The Natives
knew the
country
better than
the troops
and were
able to keep
scouts
hidden while
keeping an
eye out for
troop
movement,
thus all
eyes on the
long knives.
