Once the Buffalo had been slaughtered just for their hide and the promised food from the government never came,the warriors would at times leave the reservation to steal cattle to feed their people. A brand on the hide of a cow meant little to a starving people. Brave and honorable men faced high stakes to fill the stomachs of their crying children.
